GreenFood50, based in Wageningen (The Netherlands), is the leading specialist in innovative quinoa ingredients.
We offer a wide range of sustainably produced quinoa ingredients, such as toasted quinoa flour, quinoa crisps, flakes and puffs, for contemporary food products, based on locally grown, low-saponin quinoa.
Our quinoa ingredients are used in a wide range of plant-based products, bakery products and sport and infant nutrition. Since 2014 our ingredients are used at the Dutch Olympic training centre.

Our multidisciplinary team has a diverse background. We have over 30 years of experience in the global food and agriculture industry. Our close co-operation with the Wageningen University & Research (WUR) and other leading universities and international research organizations ensures that the latest technologies and know-how are applied.

Every year the world population grows with more than 50 million people according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). That’s what the 50 in our name stands for. For 2050 the FAO forecasts a world population of over 10 billion people. Feeding the growing world population with tasty, healthy and safe food within the limitations of available crop land, water and energy, will be the challenge of this era.
Our purpose is therefore to enable tasty, affordable, sustainable and healthy food for a growing world population.
Our History
GreenFood50 was founded in 2014 by Marc Arts (founder & CEO), who was on a mission to produce healthy and sustainable quinoa ingredients. Since then, we have been awarded with several prizes:
- Open Innovation Award from the Institute for Manufacturing, University of Cambridge at Food Matters Live (London, 2015).
- Start-up Innovation Challenge winner at Health Ingredients Europe (Frankfurt, 2016).
- Rabobank Wageningen Start-up Award (Wageningen, 2017)
- Finalist Bridge2Food Summits (the Netherlands, 2017 & France, 2018).
We have a global partner network in the food industry. We are a member of Foodvalley NL and The Protein Cluster, and we are supported by Startlife, a leading agri-food incubator.
Recently, we have executed the EU-funded Quinnova project. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 868154. The Quinnova project aimed at unlocking the potential of EU cultivated quinoa through the production of Protein Rich Quinoa Flour and Starch Rich Quinoa Flour.
As from 1 January 2020, we have acquired the Dutch Quinoa Group activities from The Quinoa Company. This transfer includes the cultivation of the Wageningen quinoa varieties in the Netherlands, and the production and sales activities of the former Dutch Quinoa Group. As from the beginning of 2021, we continue the Wageningen quinoa activities in Belgium developed by Gilbel since 2015.
